Florida Hometown Heroes Program

For many hardworking Floridians, saving for a down payment can be one of the biggest obstacles to buying a home. That’s where Florida’s 2026 Hometown Heroes Housing (HTH) Program comes in. Designed to help those who serve and strengthen our communities, this program provides valuable financial assistance to eligible homebuyers, making homeownership more attainable than ever.

What Is the Hometown Heroes Program?

The Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program offers eligible first-time homebuyers assistance with down payment and closing costs when purchasing a primary residence. Qualified borrowers may receive up to 5% of their first mortgage loan amount, with a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $35,000 in assistance. The funds are provided as a 0% interest, non-amortizing, deferred second mortgage that does not require monthly payments. Repayment is only required if the home is sold, refinanced, transferred, or is no longer used as the borrower’s primary residence.

Who Qualifies?

The 2026 program is available to many of Florida’s essential workforce professionals, including:

  • Healthcare workers
  • Teachers and school employees
  • First responders
  • Public safety and court employees
  • Childcare workers
  • Active-duty military, reservists, and members of the Florida National Guard
  • Veterans employed full-times by a Florida-based employer

Applicants must generally:

  • Be a first-time homebuyers or have not owned a home within the past three years
  • Work full-time for a Florida-based employer (with certain military exceptions)
  • Meet county-specific household income limits
  • Complete an approved homebuyer education course
  • Purchase the home as their primary residence
  • Use a participating Florida housing lender for financing

Why This Program Matters

While monthly mortgage payments are often manageable, many buyers struggle to save enough money for a down payment and closing costs. The Hometown Heroes Program helps bridge that gap, allowing qualified buyers to purchase a home sooner and with less upfront expense.

The program also offers competitive first mortgage interest rates, reduced lender fees, and financing options for FHA, VA, USDA Rural Development, and Conventional loans through participating lenders.

Limited Funding Available

Because the program is funded by the State of Florida, available funds are limited and can be exhausted quickly. Previous funding allocations have been fully reserved within months due to high demand, making it important for eligible buyers to begin the qualification process as early as possible.

Start Your Homeownership Journey

If you’re a Florida teacher, nurse, firefighter, law enforcement officer, military member, veteran, or another eligible workforce professional, the 2026 Hometown Heroes Program could significantly reduce the upfront cost of buying a home.

At Holiday Builders, we’re proud to help hardworking Floridians find a home that fits their lifestyle and budget. Our team can connect you with our trusted lending partner who can guide you through every step of the homebuying process.
