Agrihoods – A New Way of Living
Agrihood is a term that was introduced in 2014 by a developer in Southern California. It is defined as a planned single-family or multifamily community built with a working farm or community garden as a focus. Holiday Builders is a featured homebuilder in Indian River County’s first Agrihood, the Spirit of Sebastian. The Spirit of Sebastian “…Embraces the principals of environmental stewardship, community engagement, and wholesome living…” according to the developers’ website. The 182-acre development site is enhanced with 12 acres of lakes offering serene views for many homesites and a welcome habitat for birds and other wildlife. Large tracts of land are set aside for recreational space and green space.
The Spirit of Sebastian features a Recreation Center surrounded by raised garden beds, underground utilities, natural gas, RV/Boat storage, and Pickleball courts. Homes are designed to blend well with eco-friendly landscaping and the natural surrounding habitat. Holiday Builders offers eight different floorplans ranging from 1,296 sf to 2.381 sf with three or four bedrooms, two to three baths, and two or three-car garages. The Spirit of Sebastian is located just off Old Dixie Highway in Sebastian, very close to US Highway 1, the Indian River, and local shops and restaurants.
